News: Allred's 'The Golden Plates' selling well

According to a May 31 Deseret News story, Mike Allred's comic serialization of the Book of Mormon -- "The Golden Plates" -- is selling well. Vol. I is already in its third printing, and Vol. II came out last week.

It's hard to say what the benchmark for a series like this should be. But Douglas Dial, one of Allred's assistant editors, has sold 2,000 copies of Vol. I online and in his bricks-and-mortar store Fantasy Rules (Pleasant Grove). And Deseret Book continues to carry quite a lot of stock in its stores. Add in the business Deseret Book has done as well as other comics stores across the Wasatch Front, and I'd say you're looking at at least 3,500 copies sold. Almost any Mormon novelist would be overjoyed to have those kind of sales.
